River Guides

Maybe it's not the off-season for you, but for most guides it is. What is everyone doing? If you've got a business or work at a cool place post a link. Where's it at? Can fellow guides work there?

this year i am going to hawaii to sea kayak guide(snorkeling). there are no positions there but it is the job i leave behind that you may be interested in. full time ski or board patroler needed in central oregon. the down side is the season tends to start around dec. 1. the up side is you are a private contractor no affiliation with APP or NSP. a WFR and some skiing or riding ability are all that is needed. this is a "top shelf" patrol job, little work, lots of first chairs. working with some of the best in the business. small hill with good skier exchange to tons of other mountains. plus when it gets deep everyone goes to mt hood or bachelor. yes it is a small hill but it is a well keep secret on powder days. i think there are two or three positions open. hoodoo.com go to ski page not campground(tis the season)

well scratch that. im staying for more winter play on solid and liquid H2O. but there is 1 or 2 openings available at hoodoo.

Will the question is what will you be doing? No schoolio, no commercial trips, that frees up a lot of time for sipping beverages.

I need eight months to relax after guiding for four. No, I'm in Portland opening an office to sell Middle Fork / Main and Rogue trips. It's not our main office but could be someday. Lots of e-Marketing and testing out the Portland area for new customers. Aside from that, I envision lots of private boating and having time to explore. I also envision Mr. Sol on an Illinois trip with me November 14th with some other good boating buddies.... plus two kegs, for additional weight of course. Yes?

Hey Will, Nov. 14th I will have to check out the date with my agent. I would hate to have you deal with all of that keg weight with just you and your buddies. I am going to be in Portland a good deal as Rachel is in a grad. school program that meets up there once a month. We'll have to meet up and drink a few pints to stay in shape for the Illy, and maybe a quick tutorial on the website. I'll be coming up on Friday Oct. 3-5 for sure and other days. Sweet on the someday new world headquarters, those PDXers are young and full of money, I am sure you'll book 'em. Anyway glad to see you survived another season and it's private time.

Yup Yup! I´m gonna try to hit up some rivers while I´m down here in South America. Anybody know of any good contacts down here? Otherwise, I´m just gonna bum around for the next 8 months! Shred Wildly!

I'm definately looking for a few months guiding or safety boating this winter. Any thoughts?

Teaching tele has taken up most of my "off-seasons" (though I have to supplement that with alpine for the $$$). Fish, bike and hike in the fall shoulder season, and lately I've taken up disc golf. Seems the snow hasn't come off the peaks when we're into boating (though I love winter boatin, too!) Travel to the Southern hemisphere may be on the agenda for this Spring.
